Local self-government is an integral component of the political system of civil society. The work of municipal authorities is aimed at improving the quality of life of the population in various areas, including education, healthcare, etc., as well as increasing socio-economic development in general. In order to properly evaluate the work of municipal authorities, there are special evaluation criteria. This article examines the modern system for assessing the effectiveness of local government bodies, identifies existing shortcomings of the methods used, and also develops recommendations for improving this system.
