Akatov Alekseevsky Monastery, founded in the 17th century, was originally a wooden complex typical of that time. Its location on a hill near the Voronezh River provided strategic and economic advantages. However, by the end of the XVII – beginning of the XVIII century, the monastery began to undergo reconstruction in stone. The reasons for this were the high fire danger of wooden buildings, military threats, the growing importance of the monastery and the development of stone construction in the region. The first stone buildings included a temple, a fence and residential buildings, which significantly strengthened the monastery and gave it the status of one of the most important spiritual centers of the Voronezh province.
