The article discusses the feasibility of developing an automated information system to optimize and improve the efficiency of raw materials and finished products accounting in the conditions of a lower timber yard. The article provides examples of some types of software and those already existing on the Russian Federation market (such as 1C or Microsoft Excel), their capabilities, distribution by different features and negative aspects that appear when working directly with them. In addition, the reasons for the lack of foreign software solutions for the forest industry will be highlighted and briefly described. At the end, there will be an explanation of the choice of programming languages, database management system and operating system in which the program will be used.
