The article examines the influence of Christian religious texts on the formation of socio-political loyalty. The authors compare the Protestant and Orthodox traditions and identify key differences in the interpretation of power. Orthodoxy emphasizes the sacredness of power and the concept of a “symphony of powers.” This promotes stability, but can legitimize authoritarianism. Protestantism emphasizes conditional submission to power and supports the right to resist in the event of injustice. This position supports civil society, but can cause conflict with the state. Based on the comparative analysis, a conclusion is made about the need for a balance in modern societies between traditions and freedom of conscience.
