the article examines the phenomenon of the role of personality in history in historical retrospect. Various periods of research on this phenomenon are highlighted, and a brief description of the views of prominent representatives of each of the stages in the formation of the problem of the role of personality in history is given. Special attention is paid to the concepts of the influence of personality on the course of the historical process of the role of personality in history, proposed in the XIX – early XX centuries.
