The article is devoted to the study of the sorption properties of carbon rich materials (biochars) obtained from sewage sludge collected from sewage treatment plants in Voronezh. The starting material was pyrolyzed in a muffle furnace at various temperatures (400°C, 500°C, 600°C), which allowed to obtain three fractional groups of biochars (U400, U500, U600) with a particle size of 200-300 microns. Chemical composition of biochar samples was determined by X-ray spectral analysis. The efficiency of use of obtained biochar samples for sorption treatment of wastewater from heavy metals was assessed in aqueous solutions containing 320 mg/dm3 of copper ions. It was shown an increase in time of sorption equilibrium, as well as the rate of water purification (7-50%) in the order U400 < U500 < U600.
