This article is devoted to the analysis of the problems of automation of production processes in the modern timber industry. The main directions of the introduction of automated systems, their impact on improving the efficiency, sustainability and safety of logging and woodworking are considered. The role of digitalization and smart technologies in transforming the industry is highlighted. The paper provides examples of successful automation projects and addresses the challenges associated with the transition to "smart" production.
