In the modern world, the role of parks and squaresin the formation of green thinkingisto preserve biodiversity, improve microclimatic conditions, form an ecological culture among the population, and improve the sanitary, hygienic and aesthetic conditions of the urbanenvironment. This paper examines the social features of the "green" economy, its criteria and the existing steps to achieve the result declared by the Russian Federation on the model of sustainable development. The emphasis is on public education programs for the population, the work of environmental education activities in various cities. Using the example of Voronezh, the influence of exotic plants in the formation of the green thinking of the population is taken into account.
