The paper presents quantitative traits variability analysis of Picea abies (L.) Karst. tree individuals from naturally formed forest stands located on the territory of Belarus. The traits of the trunk, crown, cones, seeds, sprouts, one and two-year-old seedlings, as well as seed progeny growth characteristics in the conditions of forest plantations were assessed. It has been determined that the traits of cones, seeds, and sprouts are mainly characterized by constant levels of variability. At the same time, such a property is not noted for the quantitative traits of trees, as well as one and two-year-old seedlings. The differences observed are associated with the adaptation mechanisms of P. abies. Because of the high and very high variability level of P. abies seed progeny biometric indicators in forest plantations conditions, artificial selection of seedlings before planting could be an appropriate measure.
