Abstract (English):
Forest improvement complexes form the basis of inter-strip fields and play a huge melioration role. When creating them in the conditions of Belgorod District of Belgorod Region, all-Union, all-Russian and regional recommendations were followed. An assortment of species was introduced into forest protective plantations, which was selected taking into account soil and hydrological conditions. The growth and condition of such plantations are predetermined by agrotechnical, silvicultural methods of creation. From the silvicultural and biological point of view and physiological processes of plant growth in different parts of the transverse profile of protective plantations, the "edge effect" is noted. In forest belts of pure composition from English oak, silver birch and balsam poplar, the outer rows have a larger diameter than the middle ones and, accordingly, the windproof height of the edge rows is less in relation to the central ones. On typical chernozem, a more significant increase in height is noted for balsam poplar and silver birch on typical chernozem in relation to the indicators on typical chernozem. Under the protection of forest belts, an increase in the yield of agricultural crops is noted. With an increase in the afforestation of arable land, an increase in the biological yield is noted.
