The paper considers the current state of the forest fund of the Republic of Tuva, which is located in Central Asia among mountain ranges north of the high mountains and thousands of kilometers away from the ocean. The natural and climatic conditions that determined the diversity of tree species in the territory of Tuva have been studied. It has been revealed that the total area of 11390.6 thousand hectares of forests, mainly at an altitude of 1500–2300 m above sea level, has an uneven distribution of forest area and their composition. It has been established that in the western part of the republic, forests are represented by Larix sibirica, while the eastern mountain taiga part is covered with Larix sibirica, Pinus sibirica, and Picea obovata, occasionally with an admixture of Pinus sylvestris. It is determined that the total timber reserve of the lands of the forest fund of Tuva is 1.2 billion m3, the operational reserve is 483.8 million m3. The area of protective forests on the lands of the forest fund is 1866.2 thousand hectares, operational forests – 2221.1 thousand hectares, reserve forests – 6795.6 thousand hectares. The measures aimed at preserving the ecological potential of forests, adapting to climate change and increasing forest sustainability are analyzed.
