Abstract (English):
The problems of climate warming and the potential of Russian forests in absorbing and sequestering greenhouse gases are presented. Data on the growth and productivity of 84 clones of poplars growing in the Central Chernozem region are presented. The most productive cultivars recommended for the carbon plantations were selected, among them Euro-American varieties: ‘Brabantica-176’, ‘Bachellieri’, ‘Regenerata’, ‘Gelrika’, ‘Vernirubens’, ‘Karolinsky-162’, ‘Sacrau-59’ and two intersectional domestic hybrids – ‘E.s.-38’, ‘Berlinsky-130’. Data on the height, diameter, and stock of wood, as well as the density of wood and the length of the wood fiber are presented.
