Each forest growth zone and forest region of the Russian Federation is characterized by both pure and mixed forests of natural and artificial origin, differing in their biological diversity, raw material and ecological value. At present, the problems of determining the forestry and economic value of different sets of forest plantations growing on forest fund lands and lands of other categories have become relevant. Protective and exploitation forests, which are in state or municipal ownership, have different intended purposes and perform various socially useful functions. For the purposes of long-term and operational forest planning, as well as for the identification of forests of high ecological significance, it is necessary to have objective criteria. The existing classification of forests into different categories of protection and varieties according to the priority functions performed complicates a full-scale solution to these issues. It is proposed to use the composition of forest stands as an objective criterion not only to assess their biological diversity, but also to determine their forestry and economic value.
