The article discusses the economic rationale for the introduction of unified information systems (UIS) in the forestry sector of the Russian Federation. The article analyzes the systemic problems of the industry, leading to significant annual economic losses from illegal logging, inefficient resource management and high transaction costs. It is proved that the key instrument of digital transformation are unified platforms such as FGIS LC, which contribute to the legalization of timber turnover, increase transparency and budget revenues. It is emphasized that strategic investments in IUS pay off due to the multiplier effect of reducing losses and increasing the total capitalization of the sector, which is imperative for increasing its global competitiveness.
