The article is devoted to the specifics of the activities and development of small and medium-sized businesses in Russia. The article considers the positive impact of small and medium-sized businesses on the development of the Russian economy. Based on the highlighted advantages of small and medium-sized businesses, there is a growing trend in the number of these entities. However, the annual excess of the number of closed enterprises over newly opened ones is traced and the reasons for this situation are analyzed. In conclusion, the need for state support for small and medium-sized enterprises in Russia is emphasized.
