This article offers an integrated concept based on theoretical concepts from the fields of strategic management and environmental economics, which will help us better understand environmental management methods and their relationship to sustainable competitive advantage. By expanding the resource-based view of the firm to include the natural environment, it is possible to turn to the interdisciplinary field of environmental economics and its thermodynamic approach to "co-production" to gain additional insights into the challenges and opportunities offered by the biophysical-constrained economy.
