This article examines the main types of aircraft engines, their design and operating principles, as well as the current state and prospects of global and Russian engine manufacturing. It analyzes the historical development of piston and gas turbine engines, the design features of turbofan engines, and the introduction of new materials, additive manufacturing, and digital control systems. Particular attention is paid to environmental aspects, reducing noise and emissions, and the prospects for the transition to hybrid and electric powertrains. Emphasis is placed on the importance of engine manufacturing for civil and military aviation, as well as Russia's role in the development and production of modern aircraft engines.
