Abstract:
The mining industry is a key factor in the anthropogenic transformation of ecosystems. The intensive extraction of minerals by open-pit mining, which involves the removal of large volumes of rock mass, leads to the formation of technologically disturbed complexes with technogenic landforms composed of various rocks and their mixtures. This study focuses on the natural revegetation of technologically disturbed lands formed as a result of the extraction of minerals. This study was conducted on chalk and marl overburdened dumps formed as a result of the extraction of phosphorites from the Shchigrovsky deposit in the Kursk region. The dumps were studied for their different shapes, ages, and microrelief. The natural revegetation of chalk and marl dumps with herbaceous is extremely slow and occurs only in negative relief forms, inside depressions, among dumps, at the bottom of a spent quarry, or along the micro-depressions of the northern exposure. On the 15-20 aged dumps were estimated processes and conditions of natural revegetation. It is important to know the basic patterns of natural revegetaion of technogenically disturbed territories. Data on the mechanisms of recovery succession is of fundamental importance for planning and minimizing the volume of further reclamation activities. A comprehensive study of natural revegetation should include an inventory of the region's disturbed lands by forms of anthropogenic relief and an account of the species composition of herbaceous, shrubs and woods.
