Abstract:
The article presents the results of long-term observations of seed production dynamics in Siberian stone pine (Pinus sibirica Du Tour) introduced to the Vologda Region (using the Chagrinsky pine grove as an example). The relevance of this study stems from the species' value as a nut-bearing crop and the need to assess the success of its introduction beyond its native range. The aim of the study is to analyze the dynamics of seed production in an introduced stand. The study site is the Chagrinskaya cedar grove (Gryazovets Municipal District), established between 1900 and 1904 with a sparse planting density. Observations were conducted from 2013 to 2025. Cone production was measured on model trees. The study revealed stable yields with no completely lean years. The average seed production was 132 ± 12 cones per tree per year. High yield variability was observed across years of observation. It is concluded that introducing the species to the region is promising and that sparse planting, similar to cedar orchards, is effective for nut-bearing forestry.
