Abstract and keywords

Abstract:
The article provides data on the formation, features of planting, species composition, and some results of studying the bioresource collection (BC) of birches; the goals and objectives of creating three bioresource collection objects of birch species and breeding forms in the Voronezh Region. In the conditions of this experiment, the species of birches introduced to the conditions of the Voronezh region include: Betula leucoderma, B. karelica, B. papyrifera, B. cerasifera, B. salicifolia, B. populiifolia, B. mandshurica, B. ferruginea, and B. dalekarliensis. The article presents quantitative characteristics of seedlings planted in a forest area, as well as the growth patterns of hybrid birch plants and birches obtained through different types of crossbreeding. The results obtained during many years of research are of both theoretical and practical importance for forestry in our region. In particular, the concept of somatic heterosis for multidirectional hybrids in intraspecific and interspecific crosses has been supplemented, and extensive plant material of various genetic origins has been obtained.
