The article examines the problem of attitude towards biodiversity in the modern environmental discourse. The authors of the article propose an alternative approach based on the philosophical concept of "meeting" by the modern philosopher Martin Buber, where a living being is perceived not as an object, but as an equal Other. Through personal experience of observing nature, it is shown how such a dialogue becomes the basis for genuine, rather than declarative, environmental ethics. The key aspects of the transition from the utilitarian paradigm ("I-It") to the dialogical paradigm ("I-You") are considered.
