V.B. Aksyonov's modern research reveals the complex structure of competing patriotic sentiments in Russian society at the beginning of the 20th century. The originality of V.B. Aksyonov's concept lies in its emphasis on the emotional component of the psyche as the basis of patriotism. He points to the significant problems that arise in society when patriotic sentiments are overexploited, particularly when the state's declared success contradicts reality or popular perceptions of that reality.
