The article examines approaches to improving the efficiency of forest resource use through the introduction of modern strategic planning principles. The necessity of transition from sectoral to cross-sectoral and spatial planning that takes into account environmental and social constraints is analyzed. A scheme for integrating the principles of sustainability, adaptability and long-term forecasting into the forest management system is proposed. It is shown that the use of formalized models and strategic maps makes it possible to balance the economic interests of the forest industry with the requirements of biodiversity conservation and carbon balance.
