The paper discusses the role of digital maintenance systems in reducing vehicle fleet downtime. The focus is on a maintenance information system concept currently under development. It is shown that when sufficiently fed with data from vehicles, spare-parts warehouses and repair shops, such systems help identify buses requiring repair, schedule maintenance actions and reduce unscheduled downtime.
