The article discusses the problem of Russia's technological independence, as well as the way to ensure it. The existing model of the scientific sphere development, which leads to low rates of technological renewal and causes technological dependence, is characterized and analyzed. The indicators that worsen Russia's position in the overall GII-2021 and GII-2022 rankings are highlighted. It is noted that in the modern world, a model of dependence on the development of science is being formed, which consists in the fact that scientific research centers successfully receive information from other scientific centers and scientists from different countries. The analysis of the main factors that influence the creation of dependence related to past circumstances and lack of innovation in the country is carried out. The ways of solving Russia's technological dependence are described.
